WL121 – Overview of J2EE Technology and
WebLogic Server (1 day)

Course Description

This course covers the basics of typical technologies used in web application development, including overviews of HTML, HTTP and J2EE. The entire scope of J2EE technology will be covered, including:

  • Dynamic web HTML using servlete and Java Server Pages (JSPs)
  • Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs) for business model objects
  • Connection to other systems using Java Messaging Service (JMS), database connectivity with JDBC
  • Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) and its connections to LDAP
  • XML parsing using JAXB for SAX, DOM and JDOM
  • Java Web Services
  • J2EE security and transaction models
  • Struts and MVC controllers
  • J2EE development best practices – UML modeling overview, RUP overview, JUnit and Cactus testing

After providing an overview of J2EE, we will highlight key areas of WebLogic Server, including:

  • WebLogic architecture
  • WebLogic and J2EE technologies
  • WebLogic clustering, Workload Management (WLM), load-balancing and failover
  • WebLogic development overview – how servlets, JSPs and EJBs are developed
  • WebLogic Java Connector Architecture (JCA) connections to external systems such as CICS, COBOL, etc.
  • WebLogic application architectures

Finally, we will explain how these technologies are used to develop robust enterprise applications. We will detail development methodologies and techniques.
